年の瀬と新年のあいだに

一日を終えて家に帰る道のりがいつも以上に心地よく感じられ、
「私はこの年末年始の“間”の日々が好きなのだな」と、改めて思いました。
街全体の動きがゆっくりになり、移動も楽で、ただ静かにその時間を味わう余白があります。

昨日、クリスマスツリーとリースを片付け、門松やしめ飾り、鏡餅を飾りました。
あちこちを少しずつ掃除しながら、新年の準備を進めるこの時間が私はとても好きです。
完璧に終わることは決してないけれど、それもまたこの時期の魅力だと思います。

また、この時期特に楽しみにしているのは1月2日の明治神宮の初詣です。
その後は、ハウスキーパーのニラと一緒にアインシュタインのお墓参りをして、グランド ハイアット 東京でランチをします。これは、私にとって毎年のささやかな恒例行事です。

私は年賀状ではなくクリスマスカードを送っていますが、いただく年賀状は特別なものです。
年々その数は少なくなっていますが、だからこそ、より一層大切に感じられるのかもしれません。

2026年は「丙午（ひのえうま）」。
60年に一度巡ってくるこの年は、情熱、自由、思い切った行動、そして変化のエネルギーを秘めた、刺激的で挑戦に満ちた一年になると言われています。

皆さまにとって、2026年が幸せと実りに満ちた一年となりますよう、心より願っております。

Yesterday, we took down our Christmas tree and wreaths and started to prepare for New Year by putting up our Kadomatsu, Shimekazari, and Kagami mochi. Coming home felt especially easy, reminding me why I love this quiet in-between season in Tokyo. The city slows down, travel is effortless, and there’s space to simply enjoy.

I’m savoring these days of preparation—cleaning here and there, knowing it will never truly be finished, and that’s part of the charm.

I especially look forward to Hatsumode at Meiji Shrine on January 2nd. Afterward, I plan to visit Einstein’s cemetery and then with Nila, my housekeeper, enjoy lunch at the Grand Hyatt—my personal New Year tradition.

Although I send Christmas cards instead of nengajo, I still treasure receiving them. Each year there are fewer, which somehow makes them even more meaningful.

2026 ushers in the Year of the Fire Horse—an exciting and challenging year ahead. The Fire Horse appears only once every 60 years, bringing powerful energy associated with passion, freedom, bold action, and transformation.
